Are you new to – or returning to – Canada and do not have provincial health coverage in place? Make sure you're covered with Provincial Plan Replacement (PPR) coverage from Manulife Financial.
What is PPR coverage?
PPR coverage (also known as Inpatriate coverage), is available to Manulife Financial's Group Benefits clients* that have plan members and dependents who reside in Canada and are not covered by their Provincial Health Plan (for example, Ontario Health Insurance Plan or OHIP, in Ontario).
* members and dependents must also be covered under Manulife's core supplemental health care coverage
Why do I need PPR coverage?
Each province has guidelines for provincial plan health coverage eligibility. Typically, there is a three-month waiting period* to obtain this coverage once it has expired. For those without provincial health coverage, this means that covered services such as physician and hospital will not be paid for by the province but rather, the individual will be out-of-pocket for these costs.
* guidelines vary by province
Who needs coverage under PPR?
Those employees and their dependents without provincial health coverage that are:- Entering the country, or
- Returning after a period away from Canada, or
- Foreign employees who are temporarily residing in Canada
What expenses are covered by PPR coverage?- Benefits offered under PPR duplicate provincial plan coverage
- Typical expenses include physician fees, hospital expenses, lab charges and ambulance
How to apply for coverage?
Please ensure that members/dependents are also enrolled in Manulife's core supplemental health care coverage in order to be eligible for PPR.
Applying for coverage is easy! - simply fill out the application form (be sure to provide all required information for all covered individuals),
- plan member/employee must sign and date the form,
- include premium payment. Note that only employer cheques are accepted.
